Align Your Curriculum

CSTA encourages schools, districts, and states to demonstrate that their curricula provide alignment to the learning standards detailed in the CSTA K–12 Computer Science Standards. We also encourage researchers and vendors creating materials to support K–12 computer science education to do the same.

Prior to claiming alignment with the CSTA K-12 CS Standards, you must have your content approved by the CSTA Curriculum Task Force. The Task Force will conduct a crosswalk to determine if you content, product, or curriculum is aligned with the Standards.

Who conducts the alignment study/curriculum crosswalk?

The CSTA Board of Directors Curriculum Committee conducts extensive crosswalks to verify that products, resources, or standards are aligned to the CSTA K-12 CS Standards. The committee provides recommendations about why the product or service may or may not be aligned, as well as action items for improvement and alignment. Approved curricula can be posted to the CSTA website per request.

Crosswalk Options

There are three options for the newly implemented crosswalks:

What documentation do I need to provide to CSTA to complete the crosswalk?
CSTA has created two crosswalk templates for submission (as well as instructions for completing the template and a completed crosswalk example that you can emulate).

To align performance standards or objectives to CSTA Standards (as defined for a state, district, school, institution, or curriculum product), please use these documents:

To align curriculum resources to CSTA Standards that don't include specific performance standards or objectives, please use these documents:

If your crosswalk demonstrates a high level of alignment between the CSTA K–12 Computer Science Standards and your standards, course(s), curriculum, or resource, we encourage you to submit your crosswalk to the CSTA Curriculum Committee for review and posting on the CSTA website. Criteria for posting will include:

  • Completeness of the crosswalk document, including supporting links and/or documentation.
  • Substantial coverage of the standards for a given course in at least one level or strand.
  • CSTA reserves the right to exclude any template that fails to meet its criteria.
