The purpose of the grant is to provide pupils in grades 6-12 with expanded opportunities to improve computer science skills by participating in cybersecurity competitive events. ​ The application is tentatively scheduled for release on September 21, 2017. ​ For more information regarding the grant program visit http://www.techplan.org/rdi/cybersecurity-grant/. The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) will once again be administering the competitive 2017-2018 Section 99h, FIRST Robotics Grant. The purpose of the grant is to improve mathematics, science, and technology skills by participating in events hosted by FIRST in Michigan. The grant application will be available through the Michigan Electronic Grants System Plus (MEGS+) on September 26, 2017. A technical assistance webinar is scheduled for September 27, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. The webinar URL is http://remc.adobeconnect.com/first-ta/ and the audio dial-in phone number is 1-888-808-6929, access code 8105360. Josh Pudaloff wrote on the CSTA Chapters: Michigan wall: FYI in case you are interested in passing this along to your students: The Congressional App Challenge (CAC) http://www.congressionalappchallenge.us/ is a public effort to encourage kids to learn how to code, through annual district-wide competitions hosted by Members of Congress for their district. Students in participating districts code original applications for the chance to be selected for recognition by their Member of Congress, win prizes, and have their work put on display in the Capitol Building in Washington, DC. The district-wide competitions, now in their third year, take place from July through early November. The CAC is executed by the Congressional staff of each participating district, and coordinated by the Congressional Internet Caucus and the non-governmental sponsor of the project, the Internet Education Foundation. Schools and educators are the most valuable supporters of the Congressional App Challenge. In 2016, over 90% of the student participants reported that they had first heard about the Congressional App Challenge through a teacher or administrator at their schools.
