The Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) received the inaugural grant from the Community Foundation of Utah to plan, develop, and launch equity-focused professional development for Utah computer science (CS) teachers aligned to their new 2020 Standards for Computer Science Teachers as part of the organization’s greater mission to support teachers with resources and materials that address equity gaps in the CS classroom.
This Community Foundation of Utah grant of $200,000 will help CSTA plan, develop, and launch the CSTA Utah Equity Cohort to recognize and showcase existing teachers who successfully model equitable teaching practices.
“CSTA is dedicated to improving inclusive teaching practices and equitable outcomes for computer science teachers and students in Utah,” said CSTA Executive Director Jake Baskin. “Thanks to this generous grant, we will help address a key issue in the Utah Computer Science Education Master Plan.”
“We are thrilled to partner with CSTA to empower Utah teachers with tools to recruit more diverse students into CS classes and nurture learning environments that help those students succeed,” said CEO of the Community Foundation of Utah Alex Eaton.
This project launches today at the 2020 Silicon Slopes Conference with the announcement of a CSTA Utah Equity Cohort and will conclude at next year’s conference with a two-day Equity Summit.
